In the Thermosiphon or thermosyphon is a method of heating is achieved through passive heat exchange, which is based on natural convection. Here water or liquid is circulated without the need of a mechanical pump. This circulation of water can be an open-loop circuit or a vertical closed-loop circuit
In an open-loop circuit, the water in the holding tank is passed in a particular direction through a heated transfer tube that is mounted at the bottom or above the tank to a distribution point
A vertical closed-loop circuit allows the return of the water to the main holding tank. The basic purpose of this is to simplify the transfer of water thereby avoiding the added cost, bulk and complexity of a conventional pump.
Thermosiphon hot water circulation systems are low-cost solar water heaters and are generally preferred for domestic use.
Solar Forced Circulation System
Solar Forced circulation system has several advantages – firstly it allows the use of pipes of smaller sizes; it also gives the convenience of installing the radiator below the boiler or at the same level without disrupting the circulation of water. To this, a circulation pump is attached to ensure a continuous flow of water throughout the system. The Forced Circulation System water heater is generally preferable where a larger solar water heating system is required where multiple building are required to be served.
